A Letter About The Parent's Journal, From Executive Producer and Host, Bobbi Conner
While The Parent's Journal is a nationwide radio series for Parents, it was in fact created to help children. It is a program that recognizes that often the best thing you can do to help a child is to help his or her parents do their best in raising their children!
Having worked for many years as a producer and host for two prior public radio programs, I was convinced that radio talk shows could be a terrific way to share information on practical matters of living. I began to search the airwaves to see what public radio had to offer on the important topic of raising children. I found nationally syndicated how-to programs on every subject except raising kids. There were national programs on gardening, finance, stereo systems and auto repair, but none on how to be a better parent.
The Parent's Journal began our first broadcast in November of 1986. From the beginning the mission of this program has been to provide in-depth information about how children develop, grow, and learn and what they need most from their parents and caregivers along the way.
We have been fortunate during the past twelve years to have the participation of many world renowned child development, pediatric, and educational experts who appear as guests on our program. Many of these expert guests are also parents themselves with real-life as well as professional insight to share about the joys and challenges of raising children.
Additionally our program features parents from across the United States who share tips and information about raising children in our weekly "Parent's Notes" segment. This short segment shines a spotlight on the wealth of information and experience that our listening moms and dads have to share.
Being a good parent is tough work! You must make use of your talents, emotions, intellect, and intuition as you develop parenting skills to apply to your role as a parent. It is my sincere hope that The Parent's Journal Radio Series can play a small part in assisting you as you learn and grow as a parent.
