Vacaville Performing Arts Theatre kicks off its Platinum Season with multi-platinum recording artist and songwriter Mary Chapin Carpenter on Saturday, September. In the 1990s, her folk-pop style was enthusiastically embraced by country radio. She won five Grammy Awards and was named the Country Music Association’s Female Vocalist of the Year in 1992 and 1993. A string of Gold, Platinum and Multi-Platinum albums yielded a bounty of self-penned hits including “Never Had it So Good,” “He Thinks He’ll Keep Her,” “Down at the Twist and Shout,” “I Feel Lucky,” “I Take My Chances,” “Shut Up and Kiss Me” and “Tender When I Want to Be.” Her songs have also been recorded by such diverse artists as Joan Baez, Wynonna, Maura O’Connell, Mary Black, Cyndi Lauper, Shawn Colvin, Dianne Reeves, Betty Buckley, Tony Rice and Trisha Yearwood.

Following a serious health scare, divorce and loss of a parent, Chapin Carpenter channeled the anguish of her experiences into a stunningly beautiful collection of songs called “Ashes and Roses” released in June 2012. The willowy blonde songwriter says “Ashes and Roses” is a record about grief and loss, but it has an arc. It does go from night into day. I feel like it travels through some of the hardest, most difficult territory to a place of renewal. It speaks to that journey as it tries to describe what is seen and felt and experienced along the way.”
Sponsor of the Platinum Season, On Stage Vacaville, is seeking sponsors for the Student Ticket Program. Last year more than 60 students attended the Season concerts through this program. Please contact the VPAT Box Office to sponsor a student ticket. In addition, On Stage Vacaville will be selling wine in the lobby prior to all sponsored events. Tickets to the performance on Saturday, September 22 at 8:00pm are $64. A $1 Preservation and Enhancement Fee will be added to each ticket at time of purchase. Season tickets are available through the Theatre Box Office in person or by phone. Individual tickets are also available online at www.VPAT.net. Payment by cash, check or with Visa, MasterCard or Discover is accepted. Box Office hours are Tuesday through Friday 12:00pm – 6:00pm and one hour before every ticketed event.
